Speed - IT Research Fellowship - Terms and Conditions ICT and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) have by now turned into major sectors of economic activity in the country. Over the past one-and-a-half decades, these sectors have shown remarkable growth in the country, both in terms of export revenue and employment generation. The Government has a comprehensive view of ICT as a vehicle for transforming Kerala into a knowledge-based, economically vibrant, democratic and inclusive society. The State has opened up its gates to the opportunities and advantages that come along with the Information Technology. The Kerala Government acts as a catalyst to successfully facilitate an enabling environment for IT, IT products and ITES. Kerala with its focus on Business Process Outsourcing, Customer Interaction Centres and Digital Content Creation/Processing, Training for relevant skills at sub-domain level to ensure adequate supply of trained human resources to ITES companies and employment regulations that uniquely facilitate ITES operations, is poised today to become the IT industry's dream destination.
In the context of promoting Kerala as an IT destination, availability of skilled manpower is very vital. The recent recessionary tendencies and associated job cuts and lay-offs have only accentuated the skill factor. At a time when the job market is facing a situation of supply exceeding demand (in terms of quantity), finding a job is all the more challenging in this situation of heightened competition. To address this, the Government of Kerala has indroduced a new scheme called “Special Postgraduate Education Expansion Drive in IT (SPEED-IT)” for post graduates and PhD holders. Implemented by the Kerala State IT Mission, the main objective of the SPEED-IT programme is to expand the existing base of post graduates in IT and IT related disciplines.
Management of the Scheme During the year of launch, the scheme would be primarily funded by Kerala State IT Mission along with funds from the Industry. Decisions like finalizing terms of selection of students under the scholarship category, sponsored category, receiving funds from industry etc. shall be by a high level Committee comprising of representatives from Government, IT/ITES industry and Engineering Colleges, consituted for the purpose. Government Order: G.O(Ms) No. 14/09/ITD dated 04/07/2009 Courses Sanctioned with Colleges
