CM inaugurates model finishing school @ Kochi

About the Programme

Kerala has launched several large projects for attracting investment in the IT sector all over the state. These include Technocity in Trivandrum, expansion of Technopark- Trivandrum, expansion of Infopark-Kochi, setting up of Cyber Park-Kozhikode, Smart City–Kochi, setting up of IT parks in Kollam, Alappuzha, Cherthala, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kasargode. The availability of the skilled manpower is possibly the single biggest determinant where IT/ITES desires to locate itself. Therefore, complementary to the strategy of setting up of IT parks is the need to make available a large pool of trained human resource of the industry.

To impart hands-on experience on live projects and soft skills/communication skill enhancement programmes for the engineering/technically qualified graduates from semi-urban and rural areas, KSITM had set up the Model Finishing School at Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi in association with the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD). The Finishing School aims at enhancing the employability of technically qualified graduates and offer a ready-made talent pool to the IT/ITeS industry. The Finishing School offers varied programmes to suit different categories of youth of Kerala.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan inaugurated a model finishing school at Kochi. The finishing school jointly set up by Kerala State IT Mission and IHRD would impart training on soft skill developments to job aspirants in the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister M A Baby said the government would set up as many as 100 skill development centres across the state in an year. Government has also plans to set up nine more applied science colleges in the state.
